It's a sad day...

When a dog doesn't want to go for walks anymore.

I tried to take Paris for a walk today, he used to enjoy them so much. He went towards the door when I asked him if he wanted to go for a walk.
He seemed happy when I slipped on his harness. But once outside he wouldn't even take a step. I tried moving him to the sidewalk. Nope, he wouldn't budge. I just don't really know how to feel about this.

I don't suppose he enjoys riding in the car anymore either.
Two of his favorite things to do.

  1. I know this sadness too. My little guy once loved to go for his daily walks to the park, but now its a struggle to get him to walk outside. I don't know whether or not to continue my stubborness with trying to coax out the old routine he loved or if I should give up.

For the first couple of months it was really bad. It probably looked horrible to passerby's if they saw me trying to walk him. I'd talk to him and encourage him into walking, but he would stop dead in his tracks after about ten feet of gingerly pawing his way around. Then I'd tug at his leash (he was always walked in a soft harness) to get him to walk again. Its now three months later of doing this and although he does walk better the walk we once did that use to take 25 minutes now takes an hour (sometimes even more).

I hope you and Paris can find a way to share those walks again. I have also been giving him a holistic supplement for his immunity system (because he has SARDS) which I think has brought some energy level back.

  3. Thanks Lori, It is comforting to hear from others with the same situation. I think I am going to try again just because he likes getting out. Maybe a trip down to the end of the driveway each day to start. Thanks for viewing Paris' blog.

    Mr. Lonely, here's a smile back :)
