The squeaky sock

Here is Paris' new favorite toy...

The amazing squeaky sock! I bought a bag of 30 squeakers on ebay for about $6, put one in an old sock and rubberbanded the leg hole shut. He plays with this forever and when the squeaker dies I just put in a new one. (I have a couple socks ready so he has a fresh washed one when needed.)
Here's the squeaker...
Best doggie toy yet!!

Tried something new

I got this idea from the angelvest website.
Just wanted to try it on before buying one.
So I fashioned this hoop onto Paris' harness, it worked for a while but then he kept hitting his head on the wire and thought he was trapped. Then the wire fell down and he stepped right through it.
So back to the drawing board...

The wire is supposed to bump the wall or object before the dogs' face does.  Paris may need a few more lessons on how to use this contraption.

And again today...

Paris thought I was the table and sat there staring at it even after I called his name. Actually I was less than a foot away sitting at the computer which is on that same table.

Things like this make me think he can still see some kind of large shape or dark/light areas. It looks like he sees that something is there.

I just want to cry

When I saw this I just wanted to cry. Paris stood there for a minute and his head went back and forth to find his way out but he didn't know what room he was in. I took the picture then quickly rescued him.

Look into my eyes...

Here is a photo of Paris' eyes before he was totally blind. See how he has some brown color left?

This next picture is Christmas 2010. See the change? I had no idea he was going blind. But we are adjusting ok.

Just so cozy in my sweater.

Just pretending...

Paris still sits at the door even if he can't see the squirrels to chase anymore. Maybe he "sees" them in his mind?

Wire fence

Remember the wire fence I put up to guide Paris?
Well today he walked right through one of the spaces in the fence!
So back to the drawing board for that idea.
LOL
Life is a learning experience.

Dog in a Box!

Well here is my first attempt at making a dog bed out of a box so Paris won't slip off his blankets and end up under my bed again.

This may not be the prettiest thing to have in your bedroom but it works, and it was free!
Happy Super Bowl Sunday!

Stevie Wonderdog

Autograph, anyone?

Paris is having a pretty good week except the coughing from the collapsing trachea is getting worse.
He has only got lost in the house one time since Monday. He keeps moving off the sleeping bag and ends up practically under the bed at night. I think I'll look for a box I can cut down and put the sleeping bag in so it has three sides. Maybe that will help.

If it's not one thing....

Now Paris' collapsing trachea seems to be irritating him. I have started his medicine, hycodan, which really helps, along with a teaspoon of honey to sooth his throat.

I have installed a garden fence which seems to help guide him away from the flower bed where he kept getting stuck.
Life is a series of challenges. We try to meet them one at a time.
A good philosophy if you are a blind dog or a person.
